Ubuntu Membership

On 11/18/2009, my application for the Ubuntu Membership was approved by the Americas Membership Board. It was a very straight forward interview with some hectic moments as I had to step out of my computer for some minutes in order to take care of something, but at the end it all went well.

How to disable virtual consoles (tty1-6) in Ubuntu Karmic Koala (9.10)

Due to recent changes in Upstart, the procedure to disable virtual consoles in a default Ubuntu install has changed.

In order to reduce (o completely remove) the number of virtual consoles in Karmic, it is required to delete (or modify if you are a purist) the tty* files located in the /etc/init/ directory.

In my case, I decided to use the following command:

sudo rm /etc/init/tty*.conf

DropBox Referrals

My colleague MagicFab recently pointed me to dropbox, a storage application and service operated by Evenflow, Inc. There are several companies that provide this type of service including Mozy and Jungledisk, so why bother blogging about yet another online storage solution?

Testing 64-bit Adobe Flash plugin in Ubuntu 8.10

I've been testing the recently released Flash plugin in Intrepid. The installation is pretty straight forward and has been blogged all over the place.

So far, I've experienced some issues related with sites like CNN and Discovery Channel where Firefox crashes. These errors have been also noticed and reported by other users on the Adobe Flash Player Bug and Issue Management System. Other than that, many flash sites are working fine. Videos from Youtube and games are working fine.

Working for Canonical Ltd.

As some of you may know, I recently started at Canonical Ltd as a Sales Engineer. For those that don't know Canonical, it is the commercial sponsor of Ubuntu.

First Year

Well, a year has passed. Although I haven't blogged much, I think this blog reflects some of my thoughts and has helped me to learn about what it means to be on the blogosphere...

Thanks for reading.
